Episode Seventeen: Lee Majdoub

Episode Seventeen: Lee Majdoub

Lee Majdoub played Silas Dengdamor on BBC America's Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. The role was a dream come true for Lee, who – as an actor of Middle Eastern descent – never thought he’d have the chance to play a Prince Charming type character, let alone a soulful prince from a magical realm who was head over heels for another prince (played by a pink-haired Christopher Russell). Lee won a Leo Award for playing Silas, and he also scooped up a couple of film festival awards for playing an actor of colour in The Prince, Kyra Zagorsky’s short film about the challenges faced by Middle Eastern and North African actors in Hollywood. Next February, Lee will hit the big screen in another dream role: that of Agent Stone in the highly anticipated feature film Sonic the Hedgehog. In this deeply personal and slightly off-kilter episode of the YVR Screen Scene Podcast (Lee and Sabrina do bad impressions of Sabrina’s dad! Sabrina’s computer has a meltdown!), Lee talks about Middle Eastern stereotypes, what it meant to him to play Silas on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and act opposite Jim Carrey in Sonic the Hedgehog, and why he’s committed to speaking out about his journey with depression. Also: cats!

Note: This episode of the YVR Screen Scene Podcast was recorded before the release date for Sonic the Hedgehog was moved to February 14, 2020.
