Episode Seven: Chelah Horsdal
Chelah Horsdal recently wrapped on the fourth and final season of The Man in the High Castle, Amazon Prime’s gripping adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s alternate history novel. Chelah plays Helen Smith, a citizen of the Greater Nazi Reich of New York and wife of SS-Obergruppenführer John Smith (portrayed by Rufus Sewell). Helen is a complicated woman – a fascist with beliefs that don’t necessarily align with Chelah’s or most viewers – and yet she still manages to inspire empathy and compassion in audiences. That’s the magic of Chelah Horsdal, and why she received the Leo Award in 2017 for Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series for her High Castle role. In this provocative and at times emotional interview with Sabrina Furminger, the veteran actress reflects on her colourful career, her #MeToo and animal activism, and what it was like to grow up the daughter of Canadian folk music legend Valdy.
