Episode Thirty-Nine: Michael Eklund
Michael Eklund is one of the finest actors to ever pass through Vancouver. His filmography is vast and includes The Call, Continuum, Altered Carbon, Bates Motel, Gotham, Chokeslam, Shattered, Van Helsing, Eadweard, and fan favourite roles in Wynnona Earp (Bobo Del Rey) and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (Martin, a member of the Rowdy Three). But strip away the acting awards and the lengthy filmography and you’re left with a passionate lad from Saskatchewan whose raison d'être is, and has always been, chasing magic. In this fascinating interview, Michael talks about how he fell in love with acting (spoiler alert: Lassie makes an appearance), how he wooed his agent, what he learned delivering room service to stars like the Spice Girls and Ben Affleck while working at an upscale hotel in Vancouver, playing “bad guys” (and why he doesn’t like describing them that way), what he’s learned attending fan conventions around the world, and why he’s still chasing magic.
