Different Than Before: A YVR Screen Scene Masterclass
It’s been a year since the music video for Amanda Sum’s Different Than Before had its world premiere during Asian Heritage Month, and its journey has been truly remarkable: premiering online as a Vimeo Staff Pick, then going on to winning the Video Jury Award at SXSW, nominated for a 2023 Juno Award for Music Video of the Year, and winning critical acclaim for its cinematic excellence and timely storyline inspired by the wave of hate crimes against Asian Canadians and Asian Americans in North America.
On May 28, filmmaker Mayumi Yoshida will share her treatment for Different Than Before and discuss the collaborative process behind the award-winning music video in a special masterclass hosted by Sabrina Rani Furminger (host and executive producer, YVR Screen Scene Podcast). Mayumi will be joined by members of the creative team, including Amanda Sum, Lynne Lee, and Sebastien Galina.
Three levels of tickets are available: $10 plus Eventbrite fees, $25 plus Eventbrite fees, and $50 plus Eventbrite fees. The event is a fundraiser for the Ukrainian Canadian Advocacy Group’s Rehabilitation Program for the Children of Fallen Heroes (https://www.ucadvocacygroup.org/rehabilitation-program).
The masterclass will be followed by a Q&A and celebratory reception.
