The Skype Sessions: Tom Charity
What will the cinema landscape look like after COVID-19? It’s one of the questions we posed to Tom Charity, the year-round programmer at VIFF Vancity Theatre, during a recent interview. In a normal year – a year unlike 2020 – VIFF Vancity Theatre is alive with film. It’s the home of the Vancouver International Film Festival, and in the weeks leading up to the shutdown, it was in the throes of construction in order to accommodate new and different forms of programming, including a new micro theatre and a VR lounge. In this thought-provoking interview, Tom discusses the importance of the arts during these turbulent times, how cinemas like his will fare in the long run, and how audiences can support VIFF Vancity Theatre right now.
