Episode Forty-Four: Meeshelle Neal
Meeshelle Neal is a writer, director, producer, author, and actor whose creative work often looks at mental health – most notably in Therapy, a short work about a woman who literally battles her mental illness in hand to hand combat; Mental, which has been a hit on the film festival circuit and earned her and collaborator Jax Smith a Women in Film Spotlight Image Award; and Sweet Release, a breathtaking work about the intersection of love and grief and acceptance. Meeshelle speaks with Sabrina Furminger about the importance of accurately depicting mental illness on screen, as well as crafting stories, her mentor Gary Harvey, and the role her cats play in her mental health.
